Echoes in Transit

Thirteen female immigrants from post-Soviet countries, now living in New York, tell stories of their personal metamorphoses from the Soviet mindset of communal living to the individualism of the American Dream. Going through severe life experiences alone, these women “stayed calm and carried on” with their sense of humor, aesthetic, and spirituality.

Photo archives, memorabilia, eclectic home decor, traditional cuisine, valuable artifacts of their past lives—carrying their connection with the motherland, yet mixed with the current experiences of the new world—became the main focus of this project.
